Finally got ole CW away from his fanatical female student groupies after his university real-estate class – specializing in selecting the perfect Bangkok Apartment. We agreed that a refreshing icy cold draught pint or two was in order. Ah – way over due to visit our good friends Maj & Kenny and their excellent establishment “THE LOCAL” – we caught a cab and headed there. For general reference – it’s really close to the intersection of Rama IV and Sukhumvit on 75 Soi Phumichit. In spite of CW and my combined Thai language skills – the taxi driver was still able to easily find it.
Maj and Kenny are great folks who have created a friendly local meeting place most appropriately named “The Local”. It’s truly a laid-back atmosphere where “everyone knows your name”. Even on your first visit you’re introduced and feel like part of the regular crew. It’s a really refreshing oasis away from the regular pushy pricy booze haunts on the lower Sukhumvit area. This is not a “darts bar” but when you have had your fill or throwing arrows – most def the place to head. The possibility of them adding darts to their fine venue is best discussed with the lovely Maj – the more sensible of the two – just my opinion. Also Maj’s English is far easier to understand – nothing against Kenny and all the fine folks from Scotland.
Best News For Last – “THE LOCAL” has an absolutely great menu. Unlike so many boring Bangkok eateries that try to serve everything & doing poorly at the attempt – “THE LOCAL” specializes in a small menu – great Thai cuisine and their very own unique burgers. Their burger are soon to become a Bangkok legend. Will soon have a follow-up report on their food. – – Johnny
